Hall of Fame Inductee 2007, Jerry Johnston, received the award
on behalf of the self-taught artist, Mr. Don Keller. Mr. Don
Keller's love for wildlife has been the inspiration for his art.
His many works have been featured on the covers of magazines
such as the Tx Hunter's Hotline, Tx Trophy Hunter's Magazine,
The Texas Lawmen, and also on books such as The Professional
Guide to Whitetail and all of the Muy Grande books and videos.
Because of Don Keller's passion for whitetail deer and his
ability to capture the strength & life of this creature through
art, it is with great honor the Muy Grande Deer Contest
recognizes and inducts Mr. Don Keller into the Muy Grande Hall
of Fame 2009.
Dr. Carlos Vela, Jr.
Laredo, Texas

Dr. Carlos Vela, Jr. of Laredo, Texas is a pioneer and expert in
the field of whitetail deer hunting, guiding, and wildlife
conservation. His reputation as an outdoor enthusiast is known
statewide and he has been recognized many times for his skill.
He has over 30 years experience and has managed land improvement
programs, with much success, including his current family ranch,
Rnacho Nuevo Whitetails which is located south east of Laredo,
Texas. It is with great privilege that the Muy Grande Deer
Contest, inducts Dr. Carlos Vela, Jr. to the Muy Grande Hall of
Fame 2009.
Stephen J. 'Tio' Kleberg
Kingsville, Texas

King Ranch Biologist, Mickey Hellickson, received the award on
behalf of Mr. Stephn J. 'Tio' Kleberg. Mr. Kleberg is the great
great grandson of the founder of the Legendary King Ranch. The
ranch resides in Nueces, Kennedy, Jim Wells, Brooks & Willacy
County. Mr. Kleberg has been in charge of domestic operations,
ranching, farming, horse duties, and was CEO from 1977-1997.
Half of the 825,000 acres of the King Ranch is in hunting
leases. In 1997, the King Ranch produced the Muy Grande Winner
when Adan Alvarez harvested the largest deer ever taken in Texas
in over 30 years. Mr. Stephen J. "Tio" Kleberg's experience,
skill, and knowledge in wildlife conservation and ranch
management is unmeasurable. For this, the Muy Grande Deer
Contest is honored & privileged to induct Mr. Tio Kleberg to the
Muy Grande Hall of Fame 2009.

with himself on the cover. The magazine was given by
TTHA founder & President, Jerry Johnston, and was auctioned
off. The first copy raised $500 and the second copy raised
$250. Proceeds will go towards the Muy Grande Scholarship
Fund . |
